Marshall Elementary is a neighborhood magnet school which emphasizes and integrates the arts, science, and citizenship. Through Epiphany member and Marshall School teacher Carol Kohne, we learned of the great need of many Marshall children and their families. Well over 50% of these children qualify for free or reduced-price lunches. The meals they get at school are often their primary food for the day. Epiphany responded to this need: by designating a portion of monies collected through Random Acts of Kindness to Marshall School, and by adopting families at Christmas beginning in 2006 through a Giving Tree, providing food, gifts, and clothing for children and parents alike. From a modest adoption of 3 families in 2006, we have grown to 6 in 2008 and 2009, and we look forward to continuing this special relationship with our neighbor school!
