STEPHEN MINISTRY multiplies our Christian caregiving and outreach. It enables us to live up to our parish commitment to be a caring congregation. As Stephen Ministers, we have an ongoing sense of God working through us, and as we establish caring relationships with our care receiver, we are privileged to be able to call each other friend. It can be a life-changing experience for everyone involved. Stephen Ministers are the "After People":
After the divorce papers are served.
After the last child has moved away.
After the relationship has ended.
After the doctor says, "there is nothing more we can do."
After the nursing home director welcomes you to your new home.
After your loved one is led away in handcuffs.
After you have battled addictions.
After you receive that pink slip.
After your family and friends have heard that story one too many times.
After the baby has arrived.
After you reach retirement and now there is nothing to do.
After the funeral and the emotions come crashing down on you.
We are ready to come alongside you and provide comfort and support for as long "after" as we are needed. We are trained to listen, to help and be a friend to anyone in need. The Stephen Ministers meet with their care receivers at least once a week or whenever it is convenient for both care receiver and care giver. The relationship is confidential and can blossom into a wonderful friendship, whereby both parties are part of the caring and sharing cycle.
